What are graded exams and why should I bother?
Graded exams are basically structured to evaluate a students musicianship at every level. Not only do students learn repertoire (pieces of music), they are required to master technical skills.
Most exams consist of at least 3 pieces, some scales, technical exercises, aural tests, sight reading and improvisation. This not only evaluates the student but also gives a structured means of learning within a time frame. Examination sessions are held at least twice a year. For more info visit the Wikipedia entry |
